Sophie Nixon is an artist based in Manchester in the North of England.

With a BA Hons in Fine Art from Newcastle University, Sophie had a commercial career before returning to full-time painting in 2006.

Sophie paints contemporary landscapes and urban cityscapes in traditional oils on canvas, both in the studio environment and ‘en plein-air.’ Inspired by artists such as Edward Hopper and Ben Mclaughlin, Sophie focuses on an element of the scene which draws her in and creates a story around it. Her strong compositions have a vivid colour palette, filling her paintings with a sense of intrigue and impending drama.

Sophie has undertaken a number of artists residencies and collaborations which have informed her work. Most recently with Comme Ca Art, the Halle Orchestra and Victoria Baths, responding to both the changing nature of the landscape and the buildings within it.

Sophie’s work is shown through Comme Ca Art and is widely held within private collections across the UK and Europe.
